Editing Services
With each editing service, my clients receive a personal and supportive edit of their work, tailored specifically to their needs and concerns. All edits are made following the Chicago Manual of Style. More specific details of my offered services and what you receive with each are listed below.

Copy Editing
Copy editing is for final drafts ready to be pitched to agents and publishers or being prepared for publication.
The focus:
-
The mechanics of writing, grammar, punctuation, syntax
-
Clarity of text and word choice
What you get:
-
2 rounds of edits (first edit, author review and acceptance, then a second pass); Tracked Changes turned on
-
A style sheet for the manuscript
-
A brief editorial letter submitted with the first round of edits
Line Editing
Line editing looks more closely at the intention behind what has been written—the flow, the feel. While some grammar and syntax may be edited, it is not the focus of the review.
The focus:
-
A line-by-line look at the story and its context
-
Whether the intention of the story matches the language of the sentences
-
Reviewing the style and effect of the text while maintaining the author’s voice
What you get:
-
1 round of edits with in-text edits and comments; Track Changes turned on
-
Potentially heavier red-lining
-
A brief editorial letter explaining edits and the process

Developmental Editing
A deep-dive look at the manuscript, Developmental Editing helps get the manuscript in tip-top shape before moving on to sentence-specific editing.
The focus:
-
The overall structure of the book; plot, characters, chapter length and placement
-
Whether the story aligns with the needs of the target audience
What you get:
-
In-text edits and comments on the manuscript
-
An in-depth, detailed editorial letter outlining strengths, areas needing improvement, and overall thoughts
-
An optional 1-hour follow-up call for an additional charge
